The design brief for this residential design project was largely orientated around meeting the requirements of a growing family with four children. This has translated to a home of grand proportions with an L shape design enabling separate zones for different and changing needs - children’s areas for play, sleep and study, a separate parents retreat, as well as formal living spaces for entertaining, and areas where the family can come together.
Built on a steep block, the house was dug into the site to provide the necessary accommodation as well as sufficient garaging underneath. Furthermore, given the site’s location along a main road creating privacy was a key challenge of the brief. Large blade walls were used to achieve separation and add to the sculptural form and grand proportions of the home. Some walls also feature Howqua free form walling which adds a textural, rugged element to the build.
The extensive open plan living areas spill out on to a large terrace that flows from inside to outside and maximises the city views while the L shape design and sitting of the home gives privacy to the terrace and pool deck from adjoining neighbours. In addition to the large terrace, a grassed area at the front links to the home with oversized, custom bluestone pavers provides an extra play area for growing boys.
The end result is a luxurious family home, positioned to perfectly capture city views while remaining secluded and private, ideal for a young family to grow into.
