The clients commissioned BGD Architects to design a home that not only echoed this style, but that would readily accommodate a growing family. It was crucial that the design incorporate durable, natural materials such as timber and stone to keep an organic, grounded feel to the overall finish of the project.

The design of the Southport residence maximises it’s incredible location with rooms bathed in natural light, high ceilings, and a strong connection with the outside. The home wraps around the pool and garden, and a tall hedge offers not only additional greenery, but also complete privacy.

The main section of the home runs the length of the pool with living spaces at either end, all with a view of the outdoors. At one end, a covered entertaining areas, complete with a large kitchen, offers the homeowners a place to barbecue and relax.  Ravello® travertine was chosen to finish the pool surrounds and the outdoor entertaining areas, as the natural patina ages well, is low maintenance and easy to keep clean.

The architects also specified La Roche® limestone for the fireplace hearth, as its caramel tones blended perfectly with the timber floorboards.

The restrained colour and materials palette of this home relates so well to it’s location, and each room provides a connection with the garden or the seaside beyond.
