Beach house on stilts

Located in the beach side suburb of Collaroy, NSW the cottage has been built on stilts to protect it from the rise in sea level.

An existing bungalow was the starting point for a new first floor that features layered verandas and a captain’s deck from which you can achieve uninterrupted ocean views.  The new additions are discrete and set back to maintain the relaxed street cottage character.

The wide terrace and existing front veranda are all connected with the central kitchen and an entertainer’s dining room, making the transition from inside and out seamless.  The interiors are bleached and the large openings allow for the cool sea breeze to flow naturally through the space.

The building’s features of contrasting ultramarine weatherboards, white stainless steel picket fence and balustrades respectfully address the street and emphasises the breezy, summer house feel.

A tropical, dense garden of palms and ferns surround the beach cottage and a private garden room retreat perfectly connects the indoors with the rear outdoor entertaining area.

There is nothing contrived or overly forced with the design of this beach house.  It simply oozes relaxed beach chic!
