Decedent Mexican hot chocolate recipe

Chilly weather calls for comforting food that warms you up even if you’re spending time outdoors. 

We like to make the most of the outdoors, even in the cooler months when people typically retreat inside. With the dew on the grass on a crisp morning, the warm sun breaking through the clouds and the moody evening skies, winter is a beautiful time of year to be outside. By making a few updates to your outdoor space, you can maximise the usage of your backyard during the cooler months.

Decadent Mexican Hot Chocolate

If you’re like us and love spending time outdoors even when the days are shorter and there is a chill in there air, you’ll welcome this decant Mexican hot chocolate recipe to enjoy whilst warming up next to an outdoor fire.

This recipe makes 4 cups of hot choccy.

What you’ll need

  • cups milk
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 2 tbsp dark chocolate chopped
  • 4 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 pinches cayenne pepper
  • Optional garnish: cinnamon sticks, cinnamon and cayenne pepper


In a medium saucepan over medium heat, pour in the milk. Whisk into the milk the cacao powder, dark chocolate and sugar. Stir constantly until the sugar has dissolved, the cacao power has been incorporated and the chocolate has melted.

Mix in the cinnamon and cayenne pepper. Continue stirring until the milk is steamy and the spices become fragrant.

Pour into large mugs and garnish with the cinnamon sticks or optional spices.
