hot choccy


For us, long weekends call for outdoor adventures.

Whether it’s exploring a new destination or simply hanging out in the backyard, the mini break gives us an opportunity to enjoy the simple moments in everyday life.  What better way to warm up whilst outdoors than huddled around a campfire with a pot of hot choccy bubbling away.

This easy recipe from The Camping Kitchen will do just the trick!

For your choccy powder, you’ll need

  • 2 1/2 cups cocoa
  • 3 cups organic cane sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne

Make at home

Before you head off on your camp out, combine together all the ingredients in a large bowl.

Store your powder in a glass jar.

To put on the billy

In a saucepan, heat up enough milk for your crew.  Slowly add 2 tablespoon of your choccy powder per 1 cup of milk.

Mix to get rid of any clumps and be careful not to let your milk boil.  Don’t forget to add a marshmallow or two!

Keep the remaining choccy powder in a sealed jar in your camp box for the next adventure.  The Camping Kitchen suggest it will last for a year.
