TIME TO READ: 2m 45s

With many back behind the desk, summer holidays may seem like a distant memory. A micro adventure
is just what you need to live life outdoors and feel refreshed again.

5 idyllic micro adventures in Victoria

Returning to work after a relaxing summer holiday can be a shock to the system. But with the nice weather sticking around, we think it would be a shame to let it go to waste. Micro adventures are designed to allow you to break free from the strong grip of wi-fi signals and lattes, and get you outdoors in touch with nature again. A mini-break allows you to explore, unwind and reconnect while being back at your desk by 9 am sharp Monday morning.

Here are our favourite idyllic micro adventures in Victoria perfect for a summer weekend escape.

1. Phillip Island

Just 90-minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, Phillip Island is the ideal micro adventure any time of year. Known for its stunning coastline, high-speed motorsports, and furry penguin residents, Phillip Island offers plenty to do and see. For those who can’t imagine a weekend getaway without a good coffee and a hearty breakfast, you’ll be pleased to know there are plenty of places to spread out your newspapers and get a good feed in the quaint village.

2. Daylesford

At the foothills of Victoria’s Great Dividing Range, you’ll find the eclectic village of Daylesford.  A stay in Daylesford is all about rejuvenation with the mineral spas on your doorstep, plenty of nature walks and ample dining experiences where you can enjoy the flavours of local produce. Spend the day soaking in natural mineral waters and enjoying hot stone therapy, and then wine and dine in the evening. You’ll feel well rested after a getaway to Daylesford.

3. Echuca

Step back in time with a visit to Echuca, the historic town located on the banks of the Murray River. Here you’ll see horse-drawn carriages, wood turners and a river filled with original paddle boat steamers. Whether you’re on a romantic micro adventure, a road trip with friends or on a family holiday, we recommend you explore Echuca and the Murray River at your leisure on a houseboat. For another unique experience, try horseback riding on Billabong Ranch Trail Rides where the meandering trails take you along the river with an option of a pub and vineyard tour and an overnight stay at a local ranch.

 4. The Grampians

If natural beauty and tranquillity are what you’re looking for, then look no further, the Grampians one of the most idyllic destinations on our micro adventures in Victoria list. Bunker down in your hidden hideaway or get out and get active exploring the national parks. There’s the stunning Mackenzie Falls, tranquil swimming spots and plenty of places to rock-climb, fish, canoe or simply relax. Our tip is to stay at the secluded architect-designed retreat DULC.

5. St Andrews Beach

The Mornington Peninsula is a favourite weekend getaway for Melbournites and can get busy during the summer, however, the small village of St Andrews Beach is still relaxed and offers beachside seclusion. It’s also home to some innovative architecture by creatives such as Nonda Katsalidis, Robin Williams, Sean Godsell and Hatz Architects. Be warned, as it is located on the edge of Bass Strait, St Andrews can get wild and woolly!
