Launching Apolis out of their parent’s garage in 2004, brothers Raan and Shea Parton were inspired to create social change and empower people to dream up their own future.
Today, Apolis creates a range of clothing and accessories that celebrate the lives of the artisan. The City Market Bags are one such product where every stitch tells a story; a story of craft, materiality and the marker. Over 100 Bangladeshi women, mostly mothers, are employed to craft the market bag. “Each mother who handcrafts the market bags, receives a Fair Trade wage, annual profit dividends and a retirement fund.”
Crafted using jute fabrics, the country’s ‘golden fibre’, these bags are durable and of high quality. The hand-made market bags not only tell a personal story, but they also help break the cycle of poverty.
