Sunshine Coast Open House this weekend
Celebrating the region’s architecturally diverse buildings, Sunshine Coast Open House provides you with the rare opportunity to take a look inside. The free event will showcase 30 noteworthy historic and contemporary buildings and homes, highlighting Queensland’s innovation and growth over the past 50 years.
Pomona’s Majestic Theatre, the Butter Factory Arts Centre and buildings throughout the University of Sunshine Coast will participate in this year’s Sunshine Coast Open House.
The highly sustainable Mike Adern Centre will host guided tours throughout the day and the historic Cooroy Lower Mill Site Kiln will be open for viewing. Another highly commended building open is the Ormuz Specialist Eye Clinic was designed by Loucas Zahos Architects.
In addition to the many commercial and historic buildings, Sunshine Coast Open House has several residential projects on its 2017 list.
Avonlea designed by Robinson Architects located in the market town of Eumundi is among the residences open for private tours. Also open for tours and one of the event’s highlights is the Brazilian-Modernist inspired courtyard home ‘V House’ designed by Shaun Lockyer Architects. For those who missed out on a place for private tours, the historic Maleny Lodge and the Caloundra Lighthouse will be open for the duration of the event.
The Sunshine Coast Open house is an initiative of the Sunshine Coast Council, Noosa Shire Council and the Australian Institute of Architects Sunshine Coast Committee. It allows for the general public to engage with architecture and design throughout the event and see inside buildings they otherwise wouldn’t have access to. From cutting-edge architecture to heritage listed buildings there is plenty to like about this year’s Sunshine Coast Open House program.
