From March 15th – 25th The National Gallery of Victoria will be hosting over 160 events including tours, lectures, panel discussions, exhibitions and workshops centred around all things design. There’s a lot to see and do throughout the Melbourne Design Week but here are a few architecture and design highlights worth checking out.

Tim Ross: The Mid-Century Project

Enjoy a few laughs at the Bates Smart Gallery in ICI House with an entertaining standup show by comedian Tim Ross and musician Kit Warhurst. The Mid Century Project comedy show is combined with a mid-century-modernism-inspired installation of film, sound, furniture and art.

Keynote lecture: Sofia von Ellrichshausen of Pezo von Ellrichshausen

Bridging the boundaries between art and architecture, the practice Pezo von Ellrichshausen has achieved plenty of accolades including an exhibition in the 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale, titled “I was here”. The lecture will focus on the practice’s recent work including paintings, buildings and pavilions.

Take a day trip to Bendigo where you explore the meteoric rise of the Finnish textile and fashion company, Marimekko. The exhibition will display original fabric swatches, sketches, homewares and clothing from the 1950’s to now.
