What are polypads?

Polypads are polypropylene supports. Designed to be placed under concrete paving slabs, tiles, podium decks or other surfaces in which a well-drained supportive flooring is required. They are becoming an ever-popular flooring option in modern construction.

Firstly, renowned for their durability and strength, they make installing a level surface an efficient process. While varying in design most polypads feature a circular base plate of which foursquare supports are connected. Base plates are designed with a bevelled edge which reduces the risk of damage to the existing waterproof membrane.

The spacer lugs of a polypad are able to be individually adjusted, and therefore allow for levelling of the surface material. This ensures accommodation of a slope or variation in the substrate and the finished flooring material.

The benefits of using polypads

Polypads can speed up and reduce the complexity of laying paving slabs in residential and commercial settings. Their adjustable design also ensures a uniform and even surface that accommodates any variation in the substrate or the pavers.

Supports allow for adequate drainage and promote quick drainage of any water pooling on the surface through the open joints. Polypads can also allow for the concealment of plumbing and electrical wiring under the finished floor material.

A great alternative option to overcome the maintenance challenges experienced by traditional laying methods. As a result, they don’t require a bedding layer. Therefore expansion and contraction of the pavers can occur without damaging the substrate or membrane.

Common uses

Polypads suit a variety of internal and external applications and therefore provide a durable pedestrian surface. You can find them in:

  • Outdoor rooftop areas
  • Outdoor podium areas
  • Exhibition spaces
  • Gardens and courtyards
  • Swimming pool surrounds
  • Balconies and verandahs
  • Internal podium areas
  • Internal pedestrian access floors
