The landscape needed to be a range of things including informal, relaxed, bold, eclectic and expressive of its genius loci.

Granite Raven rebated step treads and paving on driveway with Alpine dry stone retaining wall

To achieve the notion of the ‘Sauvage’, Aspect Studios installed planting at densities which result in vigorous and lush coverage, particularly in the sheltered areas. The design creates a sense of connected garden rooms on this multilevel site. A stacked Alpine dry stone wall defines the eastern edge of the driveway and wraps around to the front of the property. Thick slabs of Raven paving form the main staircase from the driveway up to the entry terrace and Lichen slate paving works to soften the hard surface with its colour variations. An in ground timber sleeper deck in front of the rear entry door of the house provides an outdoor dining area amongst the greenery.

The gardens work perfectly in sympathy with the architecture enhancing the distinctive curve of the house and the large terrace overlooking Sydney Harbour. The careful plant selection suits site conditions and the detailing resolve level changes, creating consistency and flow around the house.
